RUST Never Sleeps June 11, 2010 JLDET5 Rusted in under threee months. Might have something to do with a soap bar always being in it as the matching corner caddy and hooks are fine so far. Was nice while it lasted.
Beware June 8, 2010 ReneP (Woburn, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The adhesive properties are fantastic. The dish will stay on our shower surface, fiberglass, that nothing else ever stuck to for more than a day. BUT, though it will still be secure, it will rust away. Within three months ours started rusting where the flat disk joins the bracket. The the shelf itself started rusting to become abhorrent to look at. So ugly we had to remove it.
On the positive side, removal was easy, and only a slight marking of the fiberglass remained where the dish was.
Summary: The 3M adhesive lives up to their standards, but the other materials, especially the welds, are totally inadequate.
I would not recommend this to anyone! They stay up, look good for a short while, but become ugly to look at in just a few months. I had two of these in the same shower stall, and they both rusted.
This is the first time I write a bad review, and I hesitated to do it, but when both of these rusted and two larger baskets did the same, obviously the metals and welds are vastly inferior and should not be sold. I wasted good money as I had to remove all four products within a year.
MUCH better than anything with a suction cup! May 16, 2010 H. Dunleavy (New York, NY USA) I've had this soap dish in my shower for about a month and it seems to still be securely attached to the shower wall. I've had suction cup soap dishes in the past, and they never seemed to work well. It looks nicer than a clear plastic soap dish that I'd normally have, and stays up much better. I've recommended this to all of my friends that are moving into a new apartment - good solution for a common problem.
solid sturdy, easy to clean and still up on the wall after a few months. March 28, 2010 W. Richmond (portland, or usa) The metal wire used in construction is a good thickness; the welding seems pretty solid; The wall-mount material seems to work surprisingly well. I have a fiberglass surround tub shower, made in 1992. The fiberglass is smooth and has no texture on it. I cleaned the tub wall and the plastic mounting bracket with the supplied alcohol wipe, let it dry for a minute or so (alcohol evaporates quickly). Then I applied the "sticky tape" to the mounting piece, pealed off the double-sided backing and pressed it onto the tub wall. I let the thing sit to "seal, set," or whatever it does. And its been holding up well for 3 months now. The only minor issue is when the soap bars get small, they have a tendency to slip through the grating, unless placed perpendicular to the mesh. I think this is a pretty nice product. That lives up to its claim. NOTE: you can also buy the special 3M sticky tape in separate strips at various place - i saw some at Bed, Bath, Beyond. However BBB did not sell the soap rack, so I purchased from Amazon.
Keeps on sticking March 26, 2010 K. S. Lewen (MN) I love these 3M command products. I just tiled my tub surround and the last thing that I wanted to do was to drill a hole in the new tile. With these products you don't have to drill into anything. You simply stick the hanger on the wall and let it sit for 24 hours. Then you put the soap dish on the hanger and you are done. We have had these types of production on our tiles for years now. In addition they are easy to remove if needed. In addition the metal finish is great.
The only thing that I am not wild about is the distince between the metal bars. When the soap gets small, it has a tendancy to slip through the bars. This is a minor inconvenience. The product is still worth purchasing. When cleaning the tub you can pop the soap dish off the hanger so that you can clean behind where the soap dish is hanging.
