Don't Buy it July 28, 2010 Brook Pro's:
- easily started
- light
- cheap
Con's
- auto feeder is the opposite of helpful
- poorly constructed
- power
- Black & Decker
- cheap
The auto feeder is really the worst thing about this product. It makes using it almost impossible as whenever you hit a slightly thick patch of weeds it just feeds and feeds. It has trouble cutting all that line since it is underpowered. I thought it was broken but the guys at Home Depot told me that's just how they work. The whole thing creaks of cheap plastic construction when you pick it up and it just is not powerful enough to cut anything more than a thin patch of grass.
I'm not sure what people like about this thing except for the price. If you don't have to use it more than once a couple months maybe this is for you.
I've bought three Black and Decker tools now and have had really bad luck with all three. I am done with them. I bought a $200 gas trimmer instead and while I didn't want to have to deal with mixing gas and such, it's really not bad. My gas powered trimmer starts right up without much effort at all and you get more than enough power to cut through anything. Soooo glad I upgraded. Can do the same area in literally a tenth of the time.
I know the price is tempting but it is not worth it! Get gas if you are going to be using this item.
Works fine for a cheapie battery line trimmer July 27, 2010 jack of all trades I gave this five stars, not because it's as good as my $500 professional gas powered Shindaiwa but because it is excellent for what it is. Ok, sometime the "sensor" lets out a bit too much string...so what.
I get 20 minutes of high speed cutting on a batter charge & the thing comes with two batteries. really more than acceptable to just grab the thing & go. No muss no fuss.
I recommend leaving off the "safety guard" (and wearing goggles instead) to get better cutting results.
B&D string line trimmer---a DON'T BUY July 26, 2010 DogRescue (Tulsa Oklahoma) DON'T PURCHASE THIS TRIMMER!!
This trimmer doesn't even deserve ONE STAR! I bought one 7 years ago and it lasted almost 6 years and was terrific (old model). Somehow B&D managed to screw up the model and change the battery and it now works like CRAP. The battery lasts about 7-12 minutes. I cannot even get my small yard done in one day. I hate this thing. AND just yesterday the guard fell off and I cannot get it to stay back on so this piece of junk is going in the trash and I'll buy another brand. Black and Decker---you really screwed up.
Bought it for the battery July 25, 2010 Joseph Brown (Appleton WI) I bought this because you get 2 batteries. The battery on my hedge trimmer was going bad. Batteries cost $40 each if bought separately that would be $80. So for $20 we got the string trimmer. The trimmer works good but is a little small for my large yard. The hedge trimmer is great. We've had it for years.
Black & Decker cordless trimmer July 24, 2010 Gene R. Cox (Washington State) The Black and Decker cordless string trimmer works very well if you have a fairly small yard. It is not for heavy duty use on very tall grass or weeds. This is my second unit. The first is still working after several years of use, however, the batteries will eventually fail and it is almost as cheap to purchase a new unit with the batteries as it is to replace them. (and you will want two).
